Myths About Home Security Systems

Myths start to appear when anything has been around a while. Home security systems fit the bill and have been fighting a number of myths for years now. We wanted to go over few of the big ones and debunk them for you. If you’re on the fence because of something you heard, be sure to read over this blog post!

The first big myth that we hear about is that there are massive fees associted with a home security system. This one is sinply not true. You will pay for the equpment and sign contract for a certain amount of time. Consider it one of your bills, but significantly less. You also, most likely, will not be subject to false alarm fees since they security systems have gotten better and false alarms are very, very rare. When the alarm is triggered, the security company will call to confirm if there is a problem. If you confirm that there is a problem, the police will arriveat your home. If there is no problem, then you just need to let your security company know once they call you. No police will show up and you will not be charged.

Another myth we hear about a lot is that home security systems must be installed by a professional. You will have to take off of work and wait for a guy to show up at your house and install the security system into your home. This is not true at all. Some companies still send professional installers, but many of the best security system companies are DIY security systems. This means that you can install the security system on your own time and only have it take 30-60 minutes. Way more convenient.

The last myth we want to tough on is that you are basically out of luck if you’ve got a large pet. Historically, this might have been true. Puppies and large dogs could chew on the wires of the sensors. Now though, most of the security systems on the market are wireless security systems. The wireless systems are easier to install and last longer. Not to mention, they are less messy. In addition, there are a ton of other options for the “motion detector” option. Glass break sensors are a good replacement and if you’ve got a pet and can’t install the motion detector, there are plenty of other options available that will make your home security system just as good.
