Home Security Cameras Capture Unlikely Footage

Recently in Topeka, KS, a home security camera captured video of a shootout occurring on a traditionally calm and quiet street. Footage captured by a home security system showed a dark SUV speeding down a residential Topeka street, and shortly thereafter, local police began receiving reports of a gun battle occurring.

“The kids are used to everybody watching out for them here so they’re not paying any attention to somebody speeding through here real bad so that’s the bad thing,” resident Larry Selk told Kansas First News. “Well shooting is the bad thing, but just the speed of the vehicles was bad, you know.”

The man who gave Kansas First News the footage he captured with his security equipment has remained anonymous, but did submit the footage to police to assist in the investigation. Because of the footage provided by the citizen, Topeka police were able to search for two cars that they believe were involved in the incident.

Similarly, in Reading, Pennsylvania, on May 2, a home security camera captured video of an accident that occurred between a car and a school bus. According to neighbors who witnessed the accident, a black car was spotted going the wrong way down a one-way street, and after running into an intersection, crashed into the bus.

The bus was carrying children, but no one was hurt during the accident.

Experts in the field of anticipate more stories like these are going to become prevalent in the news as security cameras become more commonly used in private homes. In past years, security equipment was incredibly expensive and technologically advanced, which made it difficult for residents to use it in their home, but now, with the advent of new technology, home surveillance camerashave become more accessible to a broader range of people.
