Well, it looks like things are starting to heat up in the home security arena. Home security system and home automation system company 2Gig Technologies is being sold to Nortek, a parent of Linear. Nortek and it’s child companies focus on manufacturing and lifestyle innovation, and adding 2Gig to its lineup will only boost that reputation.

As many know, 2Gig is the creator of the Go! Control system and Control Panel used by major security system company Vivint. Vivint is featured as one of the top security companies on Security System Reviews.

2Gig Technologies was founded back in 2009 after two former Honeywell employees left their positions to start the company. Since the early days there has been a strong working relationship between 2Gig and Linear, so little change is to expected after the sale is completed. One of 2Gig’s founders, Lance Dean, spoke with SecuritySystemsNews.com about the future of 2Gig with Linear, “This is an absolute perfect fit for 2GIG…We’ve known Nortek/Linear from the very beginning. They’ve been an instrumental part of our success.”

While 2Gig and Linear are certainly excited about what the future holds, what does it mean for other security system companies like Vivint? Vivint is the biggest customer of 2Gig and uses their Go! Control Panel and accompanying security system equipment for almost all of their security system installations. 2Gig systems can either be installed professionally or use a do it yourself security system model. Vivint accounts for approximately 50% of 2Gig’s business and is an integral part to its early success. No worries for Vivint, however, as things won’t change much on their end either. In fact one of 2Gig’s major players, Todd Santiago, will assume the role of Chief Sales Officer at Vivint after the completion of the sale. Vivint will be looking to expand not only domestically but abroad as well as they look to expand their product offerings and services. So it seems that there won’t be any beats missed after this is all said and done.

Another interesting tidbit to this story is Linear recently purchased the rights to a number of Z-Wave home automation products and will be showing off new devices at ISC West this year. ISC stands for International Security Conference Expo. The reason this is interesting is 2Gig’s Go! Control security systems are compatible with Z-Wave, as are many other security systems offered by other security system companies. However, with the new Linear/2Gig alliance there could be some amazing new technology in the works.

The sale is reportedly estimated at $135 Million.
